Sky Kung is a media artist based in Hong Kong who works with custom electronics, physical computer and sound design. He creates instruments through exploratory approaches, from modifying existing devices to circuit design, drawing inspiration from neglected media technologies to open-source materials. He is concerned with how black box designs, restricted systems, and guided interactions shape human-technology relationships. His work explores technology, perception, and interaction.
He earned a BA from the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong (2020). In his solo project, the black sea, he explores ambient music using tape loops, soundscapes, and drone experiments. As a guitarist in the band Lucid Express, he creates dreamlike textures with effect pedals.
