
Chinese type designer, graphic designer, design curator and musician. In 2018, he published the book “A Study on Hong Kong Beiwei Calligraphy & Type Design” with design editor Ire Tsui, which documented the eight years of research on Hong Kong Beiwei, as well as his type design “Zansyu”. The book has won the “Grand Award” and the “Distinguished Publishing Awards” of “Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards 2019”. The type design has won “New York Type Directors Club’s” Typeface Design Award, Tokyo Type Director’s Club’s Excellent Work. Winner of “2019 DFA Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award”.
He has been invited to give lectures and keynote addresses, including Apple Hong Kong, Typographics New York City 2021, Letterform Archive San Francisco and Dongdaemun Design Plaza Seoul. His work has also gained extensive media coverage, including Idea Magazine (Japan) and CNN (US). He was the co-curator of Hong Kong design festival “deTour 2020, 2021, 2024, 2025”.
Alongside design, Chan is active in music and sound. He was the guitarist of instrumental rock band tfvsjs, releasing two albums and performing at festivals including Summer Sonic (Japan), Sound of Munich Now (Germany), Baybeats (Singapore), Strawberry Festival (China), and Clockenflap (Hong Kong).
His creative interests extend to the intersection of sound and design. His installations explore how objects, light, and interaction can become sonic instruments. Works include Untitled Sound, a neon-light noise installation, and Sound of Rebound, a public ping-pong table transformed into a musical device.
Across disciplines, his practice remains grounded in careful research and a continual search for deeper meanings in sound and design.
